iTwinge iPhone external keyboard

Will you twinge at the iTwinge?
It may be heretical but some people may want to use an external "mechanical" keyboard with their iPhones for prolonged typing. The iTwinge, when attached, would cover the virtual keyboard available in portrait mode. What about you? Please complete our survey.
If its the real thing, it will be shipping in November for $30 American. SV

iphone video accessory: Owle

Imagine a bracket into which you could snap your iphone.
The bracket would help you hold the camera steady, add accessory lenses, a boom microphone, video light and possibly a camera facing you.

The iphone could then be used to video presentations, procedures and even video conference!

Check out the videos.
How would this help you in your practice and family life? SV

ePocrates OTC drug module available

This should help address the issue of OTC medications and their potential interactions with prescription medications.

Here's the low down: SV

What is the new OTC drug module
The new Epocrates OTC drug module - available with all our premium subscription products - provides the latest information on hundreds of brand name over-the-counter drugs. Our product-specific monographs answer questions such as:

What are the active ingredients and their uses?
What's the dose for my patient's age?
What flavors are available?
Does the product contain alcohol, sugar, or dyes?
Will it interact with prescription and herbal medications?
Is there another product with the same active ingredients, but in a chewable or liquid form?
My patient needs an analgesic, an antihistamine, and an antitussive; is there one product with all of these?
Is this product covered by my patient's health insurance?

iPhone AirStrip OB real time data access

AirStrip Technologies, a pioneer in mobile medical software applications, today announced that it has received FDA clearance to release the AirStrip OB™ application for use on the iPhone, and that the application is now available for download to qualified physicians at Apple's App Store.

AirStrip OB allows obstetricians to use their iPhones to remotely access virtual real-time and historical waveform data for both the mother and baby, including heart tracings and contraction patterns, as well as nursing notes and exam status. The data is sent directly from hospitals' labor and delivery units and can be accessed on the iPhone anytime, anywhere the doctor gets a cell-phone connection.

MEDENT Mobile iPhone application

As an EHR based physician of several years, I must recommend this to current Allscripts users.

I usually carry my 1 kilogram Fujitsu laptop with a Verizon 3G modem. This give me direct access to the office EHR.
The iPhone has made this unnecessary for the procedures listed below!

Give it a spin and let us know what you think. SV

MEDENT Mobile is a user-friendly, web-based interface designed to access MEDENT on the Apple iPhone. It is used within the Safari web browser that comes standard on the iPhone and can be used anywhere you can get internet coverage, including Wi-Fi or 3G/Edge. iPhone Quest Care 360 app

This is a great free application.
It downloads labs lightening fast. Even those over a year old.
You can search for individual patients or look in your "Inbox".
Labs can even be viewed in the traditional "paper" format if you are nostalgic.

I'd like to be able to group like labs together in a table and a graph to follow trends.

If you use Quest labs, you must check it out. SV

Merge Mobile PACS viewer

Merge Mobile is breakthrough technology intended to help health organizations and clinicians improve quality of care, reduce costs and improve responsiveness to patients. Today, radiologists and physicians have access to patient medical images from computers connected to their practice management or PAC (picture archiving and communications) systems. Applications* built upon Merge Mobile technology will enable radiologists to view emergency cases directly from their iPhone or iPod touch, consult with colleagues and, when necessary, forward critical findings directly and securely to a patient’s referring physician.

"Merge Healthcare will usher in a new era of mobile healthcare by bringing advanced medical imaging information to the fingertips of physicians," said Justin Dearborn, Merge Healthcare Chief Executive Officer. "Merge Mobile leverages the rapid convergence of mobile and medical technology development to empower new approaches in healthcare delivery and coordination."

Merge Mobile technology will enable the development of applications to retrieve CT, MRI, X-ray and other images wirelessly, and to perform standard radiologic manipulations to guide decision-making, much like computer-based solutions such as PACS. Few solutions of this kind exist today, and most experience download delays associated with medical imaging’s large data sets. Merge Mobile incorporates advanced remote rendering techniques, including multi-planar reconstruction (MPR), which eliminate downloading of large data quantities to the mobile device and enable near-immediate access to images. Features include remote stack viewing using the iPhone multi-touch interface, scroll, contrast adjustment, zoom and pan. A secure communication protocol addresses privacy.

Merge Healthcare provides sample images and data via a demonstration server with the free Merge Mobile download at www.apple.com/iphone/appstore.
